The house was definitely a fixer upper. No one had been in it for 10 years. So because it needed so much work and had been vacant for so long the Deagles got the house very cheap. There were other rumours as well but the Deagles just left them at that. Rumours. The police practically tore the house apart looking for the bodies. They even jack hammered out the basement, but found no one. There were a lot of suspicions but the police figured they must have just moved away without letting anyone know. Well after all of that the police boarded the house up and walked away. The bank that held the mortgage put it on the market but it seemed no one was interested. Finally the housing market started sky rocketing and finally it became a place of a little value and one family wanted it.
The Deagles knew that they had to do a lot of work just to make the place liveable but they bought it anyways. After the search was completed so many years ago not a thing was fixed up. The entire house was like getting through a maze with broken plaster, holes in the walls and floor boards up all over the place. To top all that off everywhere you looked you saw a layer of dust that was ten years old. The only places the dust had been disturbed were where the realtor and Deagles walked and touched when they were looking at the house.
Brian Deagle and his dog walked in. They were both looking around but they were both also sneezing. Brian was disgusted and made sure he commented on that when he asked his parents if they were sure they couldn’t have found a worse place.
Brian’s mom, Jackie followed in behind him. She was carrying a vacuum cleaner. She knew the place needed a ton of work but she knew she had to keep up a happy surrounding when she told Brian to be patient and in no time the place would be as good as new. She went back out and grabbed the box of attachments for the vacuum.
Behind her was her clumsy husband James coming up the stairs trying to juggle mops, pails, brooms and an assortment of cleaning supplies.
Jackie told Brian that he could go ahead and explore the house. She did ask him to stay away from the basement because it was full of holes from the cement lying around from the jack hammered floor. So the next best place to explore Brian figured was the attic.
Brian noticed that the attic was even dustier. He also noticed there were no footprints up there either. His parents must have just taken a quick peek and didn’t even bother going in to take a look. It was pretty plain up there. Just a big open room with a chiminey at one end and a bunch of pipes running around the room. The windows were of course filthy as well. There was a big battered box in the corner of the room and of course that peaked Brian’s interest. Even the dog was excited when they approached the box. However, very quickly the excitement was turned to disappointment when they saw that the box was empty. Brian looked around a bit to see if there was anything that would identify where the box came from but once he couldn’t find any of that he just tossed the box to the side. At the same time Brian’s dog also lost interest and trotted off towards the window to further investigate.
After a few more minutes of looking around Brian decided it was time to get back downstairs. But when he called the dog he was nowhere to be found.
Brian followed the dog’s tracks until they came to an end but there was no dog anywhere to be found. Then all of a sudden Brian saw the dust rising and forming a new blanket. It kind of looked like what he would have imagined a ghost to look like. Then all at once the dust settled and any tracks the dog made were now gone.
Brian was terrified and started screaming down to his parents. However with the vacuum going there was no way they were going to hear him.
Finally an hour had passed and Jackie decided it was time to get some lunch. She went upstairs to the attic to get her son but when she looked around all she saw was a thick layer of undisturbed dust with a big box sitting in the corner.
